Swagga & Lace Iniative

Your son/daughter is invited to take part in the Swagga & Lace Initiative sessions. with skills in the areas of leadership, community service, and civic engagement while allowing them to gain a sense of responsibility through healthy adolescent development.

Swagga & Lace Initiative is a component of Columbus Wellness Center Outreach and Prevention Projects started in 2010.
The Swagga & Lace Initiative has certified facilitators who have been trained in evidence based curriculums that will empower youth and teens with tools, skills, knowledge and the importance of delaying sexual activity, preventing teen pregnancy and STIs transmission.

Through candid discussions and activities, the participants compared the challenges and benefits of becoming a teen parent and why it is important to wait. We empowered these teens to make the best decisions for themselves, exclusive of what society and peer pressure may make them feel.

The active program under initiative is our Swagga and Lace FUTURE Program addressing Sexual Risk Avoidance Education targeting youth 4th thru the 8th grade.

The FUTURE Program is designed with the characteristics: Fulfilling your dreams, Uniqueness and honesty, Taking responsibility, Understanding self-worth, Respect and Empowerment is implementing the curriculum Making A Difference which has been identified by the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Evidence Review with a high quality rating/evidence of effectiveness and a positive youth development approach addressing youth risk behaviors without normalizing teen high risk activity. The curriculum is based on cognitive behavioral theories, focus groups, and the researchers’ extensive experience working with youth. This program teaches the benefits associated with self-regulation, success sequencing for poverty prevention, healthy relationships, goal setting, and resisting sexual coercion, dating violence, and other youth risk behaviors such as underage drinking or illicit/prescription drugs.
